We are hooked!

So we have decided our victor for American Idol should be David Archuleta. I might even have to stay awake until 9:00 to watch the entire male contestant night (I have been falling asleep at 7:45 PM since I get up at 4:30 AM). He is absolutely fabulous and I will include some of his links on "My Favorites" over to the right. Go David! Go Young Ones!

Santa Barbara Zoo

We went to the Santa Barbara Zoo this last Monday. The kiddos took along their Lemurs and the real Lemurs wanted us to give them up so they could play with them but alas we brought the stuffed Lemurs home. Wow there was a lot of Lemurs in that sentence. Breanna took come cool pictures of the scenery and overall it was just a great day. (The slide show pauses after about 4 pictures--just click the X in the corner and it will continue).

What is that yellow stuff?

So it rained yesterday and as we were walking to school this morning, Ryan asked me what this yellow chalk-like looking stuff was all over everything. I seriously thought someone had gone wacko with some sidewalk chalk but then as I started thinking about how bad Breanna's allergies have been lately AND everything is in bloom around here it dawned on me! POLLEN! I knew you wouldn't believe me unless you saw it but it so thick in the air that it has coated everything and in crevices you can pick it up by chunks. Craziness.

SUCCESS!

Kevin and two of his coworkers have been working on this spy satellite that became inoperative shortly after it was launched. You can get the whole story at this link http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/tech/2008/02/21/pentagon.sat.shoot7a.cnn (you may have to copy and paste this into your browser).

When it talks about Vandenberg Air Force Base and the Joint Space Operations Center--that is KEVIN! There are only three people in his shop so needless to say our lives have been quite hectic lately. Now when I say "Have fun saving the world, honey" to Kevin when he leaves for work it has more of a literal meaning.

Thank you Kevin for keeping us all safe! We love you!

Children's artwork

As I was going through some paperwork this evening getting our taxes prepared (ugh!) I came across Breanna's rainbow picture. For whatever reason I have kept it for several months and have decided the best way to preserve it is scanned into my hard drive. I love children's artwork. They really express they way they are feeling at that moment and the thoughts they have running through their head.

Ryan drew a picture of our family at church today and I LOVED his phonemic spelling of Derek's (Derec) and Amy (Ame). Breanna and Courtney are in the picture as well but their names were too long to fit. Ryan is at that magical age where spelling is fun and he is starting to write out tons of words. Next to President Hinckley on the cover of our Conference Ensign he had a huge arrow pointing to his head and wrote "Emportnt" meaning Important. I love kids! They certainly keep me smiling and remembering the most essential things in life.

God's amazing creatures

Kevin hung up our hummingbird feeder yesterday, I made the hummingbird food and waited patiently for those amazing little birds to show up. Less than 10 hours later we have three regulars and we are all fascinated watching them outside our kitchen window. Oh by the way it is, in fact, February and I am feeding hummingbirds. You have to love California!

Puffing out my chest a little bit

Breanna auditioned the end of January with a piano solo for the school talent show and we just found out today that she made the cut for the performance. They only took 50 percent of those who auditioned I am quite proud. I guess all those piano lessons have paid off. Way to go Beeder! I love you!
